Green Economy Local Hub Pilot Launches in December
“We are thrilled to join this project as it aligns with our values of community support and sustainability. We see this as a fantastic opportunity to drive change and inspire others to follow suit.” Georgian Bay Spirit Co.
Sustainability is becoming a winning strategy for businesses and other organizations across Canada, and Green Economy Hubs are playing a vital role. Green Economy Canada, along with the Collingwood Climate Action Team (CCAT) as the lead charitable, local partner, and other key stakeholders (local climate teams, government, philanthropists, businesses and community) are launching a Hub Pilot Project for Southern Georgian Bay (SGB) to run until the end of 2025.
Businesses who join the pilot project will become members of Green Economy Canada’s network, where they will receive guidance on measuring their business’ carbon emissions, setting reduction targets, developing sustainability plans and strategies, and tracking their progress.
This pilot will operate under Green Economy Canada’s National Hub. Following the pilot period there will be an opportunity to decide which model will work best for the region – remaining within the National Hub or creating a Regional Hub – and to expand to include North Simcoe, Grey, and Bruce Counties.
CCAT currently is working with the six municipalities in the Southern Georgian Bay region on this pilot program: Wasaga Beach, Clearview, Town of Blue Mountains, Grey Highlands and Meaford.
The program is tailored for businesses of 1,000 employees or less. There will be two cohorts of 8-10 businesses each. The first cohort already has eight businesses registered and is launching in December 2025. The second cohort is slated to start in May, 2025.
Businesses or non-profit organizations who are interested in participating are encouraged to contact CCAT here.
