Highlights from 2024:

  • The Tri-County Green Development Standards project was initiated with Dufferin and Wellington Counties to support the construction industry in building future-ready homes and buildings.
  • We partnered with Grey Agricultural Services on the Experimental Acres program, providing six farms with funding to test new practices to improve soil health and resilience to climate change.
  • We completed an energy conservation and demand management plan to measure current energy performance and plan ways to make County buildings more energy efficient.
  • The Town of The Blue Mountains, in collaboration with Grey County, launched the Youth Climate Action Fund, providing microgrants of up to $6,000 for youth-led climate initiatives, after the Town received $50,000 from the Bloomberg Centre for Public Innovations. Stay tuned for launch of Round 2 which will provide even more funding to support local youth climate action. Subscribe to receive application details!
  • Grey County established a Grey County Climate Adaptation Working Group and began working on a community-wide Climate Adaptation Plan.
  • In partnership with the Sustainability Project and Learning for a Sustainable Future, Grey County co-hosted the third annual Youth Climate Action Conference in Owen Sound which welcomed 130+ elementary students and 30 educators from Grey and Bruce Counties.
  • Work continued to green the Grey County Administration Building property by planting more trees and native pollinator plants.

  • Tri-County Green Development Framework Update: Working closely with our partners in Dufferin and Wellington Counties, Grey County has conducted almost a year of technical analysis and stakeholder engagement with residents and industry. We’ve developed a draft set of performance metrics for new construction in Grey County to present to County Council for discussion late in February. These metrics identify key performance targets for new buildings, so what we build today will meet the needs of tomorrow. Staff will continue consultation, and work to finalize a recommended implementation approach to report back to Council later this year for approval. Learn More
  • Local businesses asked to join Green Economy Hub: The first cohort for the South Georgian Bay Green Economy Hub Pilot launched on December 1st, 2024. As part of this program, businesses gain access to valuable resources and support. This includes guidance on measuring their carbon footprint, setting reduction targets, developing effective strategies, and tracking progress toward their sustainability goals. If you’re curious about how to future-proof your business, we invite you to attend a free climate action workshops this February.  Learn More. Register.
